About

A serious platform for a story usually told badly.

Beyond Home is a media and intelligence platform examining what happens after people leave: the careers, companies, capital and obligations that stretch across borders, and the systems that help or hinder them.

Mission

To document how people, knowledge and capital move beyond home — and to make that movement work better.

The global conversation about migration is dominated by arrival and by loss. It very rarely examines what happens over the following twenty years: the seniority achieved, the businesses founded, the money sent, the money invested, and the institutions quietly built in two places at once.

Beyond Home treats that as a subject worth studying with the same rigour applied to any other capital market. We begin with the African diaspora because the questions are sharpest there and the evidence thinnest. The framework is designed to travel.

Founding thesis

  1. 01

Diaspora capital is significant, persistent and structurally under-served by the financial system in both directions.

  2. 02

The binding constraint is friction — cost, convertibility, credit and trust — rather than a shortage of willingness to invest.

  3. 03

Credible evidence changes institutional behaviour faster than advocacy does.

  4. 04

A media platform that people trust can gather evidence that a research institute alone cannot.

Editorial principles

How we work

Independence

Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team alone. No partner, sponsor or institution reviews or approves what we publish.

Curiosity

We start from questions rather than conclusions, and we let guests finish their sentences.

Evidence

Where we can measure, we measure. Where we cannot, we say so. Estimates are labelled as estimates.

Dignity

Our subjects are people with full lives, not case studies in migration. We do not trade in hardship for effect.

Disclosure

Commercial relationships are disclosed clearly and near the content they relate to.

Separation

Commercial conversations happen in a different room to editorial ones, and research findings are never negotiated.

Founder & Host

G

The founding premise: the friction between two systems is not inevitable. It is designed, and it can be redesigned.

The host

Germain — Founder & Host

Germain founded Beyond Home to ask better questions about a life he recognises. His professional background sits at the intersection of governance, risk, technology and cross-border systems — the machinery that decides whether money, information and trust can travel.

That perspective shapes the interviews. The conversation is rarely about identity in the abstract; it is about how decisions were actually made, what they cost, and what would have made them easier.

He brings a global African experience to the work: raised in one system, working across several, and unwilling to accept that the friction between them is inevitable.

Governance

An Impact Horizon initiative.

Beyond Home is the public media and research platform. Impact Horizon holds the institutional intellectual property behind the programme and provides advisory services to institutions working on cross-border capital and diaspora engagement.

The two functions are kept formally separate. Editorial and research judgement — what is commissioned, what is asked, what is found and what is published — sits with Beyond Home alone and is never shaped by an Impact Horizon advisory mandate or client relationship.
